The September 2022 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report was read by Jeff K.
Ongoing Business
1. Anna and Whitley have put together a price list for AA7DD’s estate equipment (see below) and are prepared to make an offer to Lisa, Don’s daughter. It was moved by Whitley that we accept the equipment list generated by the club and propose it to Lisa for her acceptance (or not). Mike seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. If Lisa accepts the offer, the Club will buy the equipment from Don’s estate and then offer the equipment for sale to its members.
2. The first tranche of AWS ChangeX grant money ($4,200) was deposited into the Club’s bank account on 9/22/22. The hospital equipment committee was polled by Anna and she received some feedback from the members of that committee. Based on that feedback, Anna came to the conclusion that the FT-991a is the HF radio that we should purchase for both the hospital (using Hospital Foundation funds) and the Club (using ChangeX funds.) The main rationale behind the decision is that the FT-991a is HF/VHF/UHF and Fusion and WIRES-X capable, while the Icom is HF-only. It was brought up that the coax cable being stored for ARES should be used for this project as it is currently serving no purpose in storage.
The AWS grant requirements state that we will begin working on the three items that we said that we would achieve in a certain amount of time (believed to be six months.) The Club said in our grant proposal that we would train 10 operators on the equipment, use the equipment on the ARES weekly net, and provide support to the hospital in their implementation of their own emergency radio gear that is yet to be purchased.
Alan recommended that we look at purchasing the Blue Sky Mast System for the antenna on these two packages. Lynn Wilson recommended Renogy (renogy.com) for the solar power component of these projects as he has had excellent experiences with them in building his repeater system. Lynn then discussed the W7NEO repeater system for a while and talked about the plans that he has for his system and the systems that it is tied into. He also fielded several questions from HARC members about the W7NEO system.
