A motion was made by Todd to adopt the September meeting minutes as presented and was seconded by Mike.  The motion passed unanimously.

The October 2023 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report was read by Jeff K.

Ongoing Business:

  1. Dennis provided a solar report to the club.

       2.   GSCH update – Alan reported that some members of the club’s project working group (Alan, Jim, Dennis, and Emery) had a meeting with Matt Moore at GSCH on September 13th.  Emery said that they found some coax cable coming into Matt’s office and were able to find where it entered the wall, but were unable to trace it much further than that.  Emery thinks that someone should go to the office and hook up an antenna analyzer or SWR meter to it to see if there is an actual antenna attached to it.  Emery reports that the other radio in the office is a business radio with its own coax and antenna.   Alan said that he went up on the roof with Doug Payne in 2014 and saw an antenna, but Emery believes that the antenna that Alan saw then has since been repurposed.  After visiting Matt’s office, the group went to the electrical room and saw an equipment rack that Matt said could be removed to provide space for a ham radio station.  Emery said that Matt proposed two ham radio carts, each with a radio on it.  One cart could stay in the electrical room and one cart could be moved into the Boardroom in the event of an incident.

Matt then escorted the group up to the roof.  There is a mounting pedestal for a mast that could be tall enough to allow for two VHF/UHF antennas mounted to it, according to Emery.

Alan reports that Matt Moore has recently ordered a Barker & Williamson 90’ antenna from HRO and he thinks that it’ll be shipped within a couple of weeks.  Alan sent Matt (via email) an instruction sheet from the manufacturer that shows how to properly install the antenna.

      3.  Club logo update – President Sam presented three logo choices to the club and gave the price for each one.  The list was quickly narrowed down to options 1 and 2.  Sam asked for a vote between the two, and option 1 won unanimously with one abstention.  President Sam will let Deb Ashbeck know which design the club voted for and will have her put that into the file that she has for our club.

President Sam asked the club members present if they wanted to set up embroidery with Pea Ridge and to pay the set up fee off so that members could go in and have their own items embroidered or if the members wanted him to compare pricing between Pea Ridge and another embroidery shop.  Jeff moved that the club go with Pea Ridge and pay them to set up embroidery.  The motion was seconded by Mike.  Motion passed unanimously.

      4.  Winter FIeld Day – Jeff has obtained permission from the school district to use the Old Fairgrounds on January 27-28 if the club would like to use that.  Mike moved to use the old fairgrounds.  Chuck seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

     New Business:

  1. President Sam said that elections will occur at next month’s meeting as per the Club’s by-laws.  President Sam declared that nominations are open between now and next month’s meeting.   Jeff nominated Sam for President.  Jeff nominated Anna for Vice-President.  Sam nominated Jeff as Secretary/Treasurer.  No more nominations were heard.
  1. Mike is interested in purchasing the FTM-400 that the club has in its possession, and he has offered $350 for it. President Sam declared that the Club would accept the offer.  Mike will make arrangements to obtain the radio from Whitley and will then pay the Club
  1. Dennis announced that Kimball, W7CME, has an amplifier that he would like to possibly sell.  It is a Clipperton Model L.
  1. Sam mentioned that someone named Robert Edwards is in possession of equipment from his dad’s estate, (Bob Edwards (WB7DKF) from Irrigon.) Robert reached out to the club via our website and said that he’d like to donate some equipment to the Club.  Sam will meet with Robert on Friday in Irrigon and accept anything that they’d like to donate.
  1. Jeff mentioned that there is a Hermiston Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, October 24th from noon to 4 at the Community Center.  Todd, Dennis, and Sam said that they might be able to attend.  Jeff will email the Chamber to ask for a table at the Volunteer Fair.

Announcements:

The meeting was adjourned by AA7TH at 20:15.
