The August 2024 meeting minutes and September 2024 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report were distributed via email by J. Kelso on 09/03/2024.
A motion was made by Todd to adopt the August meeting minutes as presented and it was seconded by Dennis. The motion passed unanimously.
The September 2024 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report was read by Jeff K.
Ongoing Business:
- Dennis provided a solar report to the membership.
- Testing – Kevin reported via email the following information which was read at the meeting: “There are no applicants for Tuesday 09/10/2024. Session was deleted on 09/08/2024 to avoid last minute signups.”
- Winter Field Day 2025 – Kevin reported via email the following information which was read at the meeting: “Michelle and I met with Brian Rust, Facilities Manager at EOTEC. He too is eager for us to set up and find out what is needed to operate from the EOTEC facility.
EOTEC is a designated evacuation center for Umatilla County. State and Federal communications practice events have already been held there and are in the EOTEC emergency operations manual. I reiterated to Brian that someone from the club would prepare an after action report for EOTEC managers to include in their operations manual.
When I mentioned that access to a bathroom is important he told me that the bathroom in the Small Animal Barn will be winterized this year. In past years when it was not winterized there has been weather related damage to the bathroom and resulted in costs to repair. The bathrooms in the main building will not be winterized and will be available to us. We talked about possible places to set up for the WFD.
I mentioned that there may be a small number of RVs who want to stay overnight during WFD. He was certain that RVs can be accommodated. But probably there will not be power or water available at that time of year. I asked about parking on the west side of the building on the asphalt and he thought that may be possible as long as it is a small number of RVs.
We agreed to meet again later to look for specifics. I would like to know who plans on operating at WFD to meet there to look at and discuss where to set up. Please contact me at my email to let me know. WFD is January 25/26, 2025. I have registered the club, using AI7HO as an “indoor” event. But in the comments I noted that the actual category will be set as plans are made firmer. Michelle and I will be meeting with a representative of EOTEC again soon.
WFD website is: https://winterfieldday.org/ I anticipate using N3FJP’s Winter Field Day logging software for this event.”
- Wagon Train – Kevin reported via email the following information which was read at the meeting: “For wagon train I need to know the number of ops who worked the wagon train net who want tickets to Friday rodeo. Must be the actual op plus one guest. Please email me if they want tickets. This will be for the Friday afternoon rodeo.”
- Inventory – Anna asked if the Board of Directors have had a chance to meet and discuss the inventory. They said that they had not.
New Business:
- Jeff announced that the Hermiston City Council has decided to not move their meetings from the second and fourth Mondays of the month. President Sam asked that we consider perhaps moving the HARC meeting to the first or third Monday of the month. Todd recommended moving it to the second Wednesday or the third Monday. Anna’s second Wednesday is filled.
- Todd reminded everyone that September is Preparedness Month. Todd asked everyone to think about how many weeks of food, water, and other necessary supplies they have on hand at their house. Second, Todd asked that everyone take a look to see what they have in their car in terms of survival equipment. Camping gear, food, water, and other supplies are important to have in vehicles as well. Todd also asked everyone to consider if they were ready to evacuate their house if the need ever arose. A lengthy discussion of emergency preparedness ensued.
Announcements:
1. Club Breakfast – Saturday, September 21st at Rayz Dayz, Umatilla at 8:00 AM.
2. Dennis reported that he tried doubling up the number of magnets in his Lenz Law demonstration and reports that he didn’t see any difference in the speed with which the magnets dropped through the tube.
- Anna announced that she had brought plums to share with whomever wanted to take some home.
The meeting was adjourned by AA7TH at 19:50.
Respectfully submitted by Jeff Kelso, W7JJK.
