Ongoing Business:
- Dennis provided a solar report to the membership.
- Testing – Kevin wasn’t present and there were no updates on the topic.
- Ione Radio Class – Todd reports that he’s not had any contact with the school recently.
- October Fourth Thing – There have been no proposals for a gathering or event according to President Sam. Todd mentioned that his recent experience at the Oregon State Fair made him think that there might be an opportunity at the SAGE Center to share ham radio with youth in a STEM-friendly environment. He also thought that we might be able to have the Winter Field Day at SAGE Center as well.
- The Amazon grant cycle will come around again in January, according to Anna. Anna mentioned that the St. Anthony hospital in Pendleton might make use of equipment purchased with the grant. Anna said that she would call Alan to discuss the topic further. Todd mentioned that we might think about future equipment or cabinetry needs should the HARC be allowed to use the Hermiston Carnegie Building space at some point.
- Carnegie Building – Todd made a motion to have a club officer be prepared to present to the City Council a plan to use the part of the Carnegie Building as a HARC clubhouse/amateur radio learning center. The motion was seconded by Mike. The motion passed unanimously.
- Sam wanted to give Kevin the opportunity to sign the club up for this year’s October 16th installment of The Great Shakeout and asked that the club give Kevin the authority to do so. Jeff made a motion to that effect and Todd seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
New Business:
- Should HARC join the Chamber of Commerce? After some discussion, Whitley made a motion to join for one year. Seconded by Todd. The motion passed unanimously. Jeff will apply to have the club join on November 1st.
- Officer nominations are open. Jeff nominated himself as Secretary/Treasurer. Todd nominated Anna as Vice President. There were no nominations for the President position at this meeting.
- Winter Field Day – The SAGE Center was mentioned as a possible location. EOTEC was also mentioned. Anna said that she would get together with Abraham to explore the possibility of holding the HARC Winter Field Day event at the SAGE Center. Winter Field Day is January 24th-25th this year.
- Whitley mentioned that he would like to go up to the repeater to do some work on it and thought that others might be interested in joining him. Someone asked that he put a message on the reflector as to his planned date so that those who were interested would know when the trip would be.
- Sam mentioned that he has a bunch of “ham junk” and thought that others might have an interest in swapping their disused ham stuff, too. Todd mentioned that Swaptoberfest is coming up in Rickreall on the 18th.
Announcements:
1. Club Breakfast – Saturday, October 18th at Rayz Dayz, Umatilla at 8:00 AM.
The meeting was adjourned by AA7TH at 20:09.
