September 7th, 2026 Meeting Minutes

***THESE MINUTES REMAIN UNOFFICIAL UNTIL ADOPTED AT THE NEXT CLUB MEETING*** The September 7th, 2026 monthly HARC meeting was held in Hermiston High School Room 313 and was called to order by President Sam at 19:00. Member Attendees: KG7WYY (Fred), KD7VX (Whitley), W7JJK (Jeff), W7MWK (Mike), W7ILD (Todd), KI7CUS (Dennis), KJ7NYZ (Anna), K7TTW (Sam), KB7CKJ (Chuck), N7NKT (Mike), AA7TH (Sam), NB7O (Kevin), K7MGO (Michelle),  AA7AZ (Jim), K7PAH (Frank), KE4TRR (Alan), KM7BHY (Sylvia) Guests: New Members: The August 2026 meeting minutes and September 2026 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report were distributed via email by J. Kelso on 09/01/2026. A motion to adopt the August meeting minutes was made by Kevin and seconded by Mike (W7MWK).  The motion passed unanimously. The September 2026 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report was read by Jeff. Ongoing Business:

1. 1. Dennis provided a solar report to the membership.

2. 2. Testing – No applicants have registered for testing this month according to Kevin.  Kevin says that it seems that most everyone is taking their tests online these days.  President Sam challenged everyone to upgrade their license to Extra if possible.

3. 3. Carnegie Building Update – Sam reported that we should have a large amount of horizontal desk space available for our use when we move into the Carnegie Building.  Sam then mentioned that he will reach out to the City Manager to inquire about their readiness for our move into the basement.  Dennis reports that he has several Club-owned chairs at his place that we could use in the Carnegie Building once we move in.

4. 4. Sam mentioned that he talked with someone at Umatilla County Health about their solicitation for civic groups’ participation with their Climate Resiliency sub-department.  Sam wanted to make sure that the Club’s members were OK with declining any further communication with this group.  The consensus of the members favored not pursuing the relationship any further.

5. 5. Whitley shared that he and Fred went up to the repeater site last week.  The door to the repeater shack was wide open and swinging in the wind when they arrived at the site.  The door was still locked, and neither one of the gents could discern how the door had been opened.  Nothing was disturbed or damaged, and the hinges on the door were just fine.  Whitley set the clock on the controller and re-located the power supply for the MASTR II and the MASTR II itself.  They verified that the MASTR II transmitter is working, and that the receiver isn’t working.  Whitley asked Dennis to look for a pair of 9914 double-shielded coax jumpers to hook the MASTR II up properly.  Whitley has figured out that he needs a standard DB9 male to DB9 male straight-through cable to hook the MASTR II up to the controller, and he has several of them.  Whitley has also been working on the programming of the controller for the MASTR II radio.

New Business:

1. 1. Todd mentioned that Old West Credit Union has savings accounts with interest rates around 5%.  Todd made a motion that the Secretary/Treasurer research a place to park our money at a higher interest rate.  The motion was seconded by Mike (M7MWK).  The motion passed unanimously.

2. 2. Route 66 Event – Kevin reported that the event starts on September 12 and ends on the 20th.  Twenty-two different clubs have volunteered to be on the air during the event.  A certificate is available for those who make at least one event contact, and Kevin will email a link out to the club to help monitor event progress.  More information can be found at this link:  https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/official-invitation-route-66-on-the-air-2026-the-centennial-celebration.1002370/

3. 3. President Sam reports that several HARC members were in attendance at the La Grande’s W7GRA club’s first-ever swap meet and that it was a good event.  The event was well attended and was very well done, according to Sam.  Sam told the membership that he was able to meet Scott Rosenfeld (N7JI)  from Eugene, the Oregon ARRL rep, and even took a selfie with him.  He also brought back some books for the HARC library from the event.

4. 4. Rhett sent out an email just before the club meeting announcing the creation of the Framerates Net’s new website.  He solicited feedback on the website from the recipients of the email.  The site is framerates.net.

5. 5. Anna announced that she had started researching the Scouts’ Jamboree on the Air event and found that the event will take place on October 16-18th.  Anna also reached out to the head of the Mormon boys’ group and found that he’s a ham.  She is going to inquire with Scouting America on their participation in the event.  Todd volunteered to help with this event.

6. 6. Kevin announced that he and Michelle will be attending their first-ever Board meeting for the Winlink Development group in October.

Announcements:

1. 1. The Zoom meeting for Oregon ARRL-affiliated clubs will take place on the 9th of this month.

1. 1. Club Breakfast – Saturday, September 19th at Rayz Dayz, Umatilla at 8:00 AM.

1. 1. Sam announced that he had brought in some previously-loved equipment and that it was up for grabs or sale, as the case may be.
