A motion was made by Todd to adopt the December meeting minutes as presented and it was seconded by Mike. The motion passed unanimously.
The January 2025 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report was read by Jeff.
Ongoing Business:
- Dennis provided a solar report to the membership.
- Testing – Kevin sent no update and was not present. Anna wondered if we needed more VEs and said that she might pursue VE certification with W5YI if that was the case.
- Ione School Ham Radio Class – Todd reported that the classes, which are comprised of 5th and 6th grade students, have been a lot of fun so far. His next class session will be held on the 29th of January. He will be teaching the next class with Becky, KK7RF, and it will involve guiding the students through some actual communications on the radio. So far, the class has covered Ohm’s Law, weather effects on propagation, and other aspects of radio communications. Todd says that the teacher and perhaps two students will go through training and obtain their licenses. The teacher is going to build a station for the school as well that should be relatively easy to install during the addition of the new wing to the school.
- Winter Field Day 2025 – The club will be holding a Winter Field Day event at EOTEC on Saturday, January 25th from 1 to 4 PM. Sam thanked Anna and Rhett for getting the postcards in the mail. The postcards invited area hams to attend HARC’s WFD 2025 Open House on Saturday, January 25th from 1300-1600 hours in EOTEC Meeting Room 3. Anna said that 245 cards were sent out to hams around the region. Sam presented a slideshow on the computer that was chock full of information about WFD 2025. Anna asked if anyone had a logging system that we could hook up to a screen to show people the contacts that the Club has made during WFD. Todd said that he could provide one. Anna asked if we could have someone who could monitor the Black Mountain repeater between 1 and 4 PM and/or on HF so that we could have someone to have people talk with. Anna mentioned ordering pizza for dinner and having the club pay for it. Everyone seemed to agree that it was a good idea to do so. Anna also asked that members bring their vests to the event as well to be visible to any visitors who might have questions.
New Business:
- Sam mentioned that Jeff K. is unavailable on the third Monday of each month. Emery moved that the club meeting be moved to the first Monday of the month starting in February. Motion seconded by Mike. Motion passed unanimously. The next HARC business meeting will take place on February 3rd.
- Kevin brought the LCTOTA activity to the club last year. Kevin asked Sam if the club wanted to participate again this year. Mike made a motion that the club participate next year and it was seconded by Dennis. The motion carried with one abstention.
- Sam mentioned that he has a germ of an idea about the Club activities called “1, 2, 3, 4.” The first Monday of the month would be a business meeting, the second Tuesday of the month would be a testing day, the third Saturday would be a breakfast, and the fourth week would contain a “something” activity day that would be a fun or learning activity that might be interesting and attractive to both new and existing members.
Announcements:
1. Club Breakfast – Saturday, February 15th at Rayz Dayz, Umatilla at 8:00 AM.
The meeting was adjourned by AA7TH at 19:58.
Respectfully submitted by Jeff Kelso, W7JJK.
