The October 12th, 2024 monthly HARC meeting was held at Hermiston High School in Room 311 and was called to order by President Sam at 19:02.

The September 2024 meeting minutes and October 2024 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report were distributed via email by J. Kelso on 10/02/2024.
A motion was made by Todd to adopt the September meeting minutes as presented and it was seconded by Dennis. The motion passed with one abstention.
The October 2024 Secretary/Treasurer’s Report was read by Jeff K.
Ongoing Business:
- Dennis provided a solar report to the membership.
- Winter Field Day 2025 -Winter Field Day will be held on January 25th and 26th at EOTEC. The grounds and the facility will be open to HARC to host an event on those days. Sam mentioned that trailer space will be available, but trailer hookups will not be available. The restrooms in the main building will be available for use.
- Testing – Last week’s test session was canceled, but there will be another testing opportunity on November 12th.
New Business:
- Sam announced that nominations are currently open for all three club officer positions. Jeff Sak nominated Jeff Kelso for Secretary/Treasurer. Jeff Kelso nominated Sam for President and Anna for Vice-President.
- Jim donated an ARRL Antenna Book (16th Edition) and an unbound book entitled “Public Service Communications Manual” to the club.
- Sam mentioned that the Ione Charter School is interested in making amateur radio Technician licensing and practice a part of their 6th grade science program. Jeff forwarded the pertinent email to the entire club so that anyone who might be interested could reach out to the sender of the email for more details. Todd volunteered to represent the club to the sender of the email and to Stuart Bottom. Todd also asked if other members of the club were willing to help out and several indicated that they were. A lengthy discussion of possible avenues that the club might take to help the youth of our community develop technical skills and/or go to trade school or college ensued.
Announcements:
1. Club Breakfast – Saturday, October 19th at Rayz Dayz, Umatilla at 8:00 AM.
2. Alan mentioned that the Great Shakeout will be on October 17th and that hams are invited to send the DYFI form to USGS via Winlink as a part of that exercise. He also mentioned that OEM exercise IronOR ‘24 will take place on October 28 through 31 and that the Umatilla County EOC will be participating in the event.
